Lake Mary, Florida used to be a small town north of small city Orlando. With Orlando’s growth to become a bigger city, Lake Mary is starting to see developments pop up… like downtown Lake Mary.
Just outside City Hall is a park, and the park rambles around the city buildings down to the pond that shields downtown from the four-lane divided highway. The pond has a huge fountain shooting up into the air, and the whole picture is softened by giant mossy oaks. Spanish moss even hangs off the few magnolia trees around, advertising Florida’s latitude south of the south.
Just beside city hall are Lake Mary’s collection of restaurants, including 4th Street Bar and Grill, Krazy Greek Kitchen and myriad boutiques. The storefronts are beautiful, clean facades covered in Bougainvillea vines, wrought iron trellises and lanterns.
I enjoyed watching the sun set over the pond as the old Floridians wandered by through the park. At the end of a long Tuesday, it was great to sit in the park and relax in the wet-blanket humidity.
Beautiful, summer.
