Sleeping Beauty at the Virginia Theatre

When I’m settling into a new community, I always look for upcoming events to attend: picnics, parades, art shows, anywhere I can hang out and meet new friends.  One of my favorite things to do is attend community theatre, especially kids’ shows.  So when I saw the Virginia Theatre in downtown Champaign was hosting Disney’s Sleeping Beauty performed by third graders… how could I say no?

The Virginia Theatre is a part of old downtown Champaign and it is beautiful inside.  Here is a peek at the glamour (and the link to their website for much better professional photography: http://thevirginia.org):

Since Sleeping Beauty is such a family-friendly show, we had an audience of about one-third children.  “YUCK!” said a kid loudly, as the Prince finally broke Sleeping Beauty’s spell.  Everyone laughed.  I think kisses are one of those things that improve as you get older.  Third grade kisses, even from a Prince, may turn out to be clammily disappointing.

After the heavy red curtain dropped for the last time, I went upstairs to explore and found three small girls in sundresses twirling, pretending to be fairies. “Do you know how to take a picture with my phone?” I asked one of them.  “Of course,” she responded indignantly.  And below is the result.
