Thanksgiving with Houston

By 9:00 this turkey Thursday I was in downtown Houston for the H-E-B Thanksgiving Day parade.

I can’t claim to be a person who always gets up on Thanksgiving to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York, but when I heard about Houston’s (smaller) version downtown Thanksgiving Day, I thought it would be a great adventure to go see a big Thanksgiving Day parade in person!  After finding parking (which almost gave me a flat tire), I joined the crowds on the streets watching the parade… and I don’t know which was more interesting, the parade or the people watching it.

I didn’t take many pictures of the biggest floats and displays, but they were fantastic!  Overall, it was a great parade and worth the effort it took to get downtown.

So much for the parade itself – here are my favorite pictures of the people there.

Play… motion… JOY. Aren’t bubble guns the best part of any gathering these days?

Watching. Safeguarding. A reminder that even in this happy crowd, a tragedy could be waiting to happen.

These folks brought their own ladder for a better view! I admire their ingenuity (and that gold chain)!

I don’t know these two beautiful ladies, but they were happy to pose for a picture in their matching flannel. Cuuuute!

Happy Thanksgiving, Houston!

P.S. A bonus… this High School football team wasn’t quite done having fun after the parade, so they stood on this street corner roaring and cheering every time someone honked at them or lost patience in the traffic jam.  I love the way they freely shared their fun buoyancy on the street, helping everyone smile on their way home to turkey dinner.
